On a recent Saturday night my wife and I were looking for a place to have dinner. With no reservation, we were turned down at several places until we landed at Paul's City Grille. A restaurant with a food this great deserves a better location. My salad was "snappy fresh" and the house dressing was superb. There should be people standing in line to eat the Short Rib dinner I was served. And my wife had Chicken Piccata that would stand up to any on "the hill". The service was awesome and the prices are more than fair. The only issue I have is the music. While many would think that live music is a plus, I take issue with being seated near a live band where our courteous hostess made her first attempt. And, if we MUST have live music, I would suggest a genre of music that appeals to a larger demographic than the "wedding crowd". There are few a restaurants that you can walk into on a Saturday night at 8 and get seated at once. Paul's City Grille shouldn't be one of them. This chef deserves better. Take him off this obscure corner of East Providence and you wouldn't have a chance at a seat without a reservation on a Saturday night.

Wonderful friendly service and delicious food. Who could ask for anything more! Had the Shrimp Mozambique appetizer and the Caesar Salad with Blackened Salmon. They have karaoke on Friday nights and it was like fun family party. Fast becoming one of our favorite go to spots.

So this was my second time at 2 Pauls since they opened and this second time around they got it right! (I won't bother to recall the first horrible food disaster) So I just want to first say to those who reviewed when they first opened- you may want to give them another shot! I was skeptical. I put it off for months, and was so reluctant to go there last Friday. . But I did end up enjoying my food. We walked in and were totally shocked at how busy they were. We chose a high table by the bar area. The waitstaff was nice but definitely seem a bit rushed, and perhaps disorganized? , the whole night. Suggestions to 2Pauls, expand your beer selection for sure. We have awesome local brews! Get some. We ordered a bit of everything. I suggest the specials. That night, awesome jamaican jerk chicken wings and arancini. Both delicious apps. Dinner came out wayy too fast though. Their french onion soup was good, burger was just meh.. Left without a huge hole in my pocket, a full tummy, and a short drive home. Nice little place in EP. Oh! And don't forget to enjoy the hummus you get with bread while you wait for your dinner. Yum.

Thought the food was great, my dad can't really eat a lot of salt and the chicken parm was perfectly tasty and not a lot of salt and everything was home made! Satisfied with the portions and friendly waitstaff. Overall a good experience, sad to see such a great restaurant fairly quiet on a Friday night but NO wait which was fabulous. Well it was Sunday morning; we dropped junior off at football, had about an 1 1/2 before game time, so we drove around looking for a breakfast joint. We spotted City Grill and decided to give it a whirl. We were the only two in there, they were serving brunch. Good menu, my wife had eggs Benedict Florentine and I had hash and eggs. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was really superb.

Just wanted to weigh in on a couple of new menu items ..The new Polenta Appetizer was excellent and just enough for two people to wet the appetite for an exceptional Blackened Tuna enjoyed by my lady and exquisite Eggplant Parmesan that was anything but ordinary. every time I think I find a favorite, you guys add something that turns my head !! I give this local dive a solid 3 stars...don't come expecting gourmet dining but a good, consistent dinner, good service and not a so bad ambiance all for a reasonable price! I had very nice shrimp kabobs and the man enjoyed the veal parm! Not too shabby...

To sum up: Some stuff VERY good, some really lackluster. Worth going back for what was good. After driving by the place enough times, curiosity and convenience brought my wife and me into 2 Pauls the other night for dinner. I have often found that places trying to specialize in 'comfort food' just end up being mediocre; and it seems like 2 Pauls is very good at some things, and utterly mediocre in others. Apps of Polenta Fries and Jerk Wings started us off very nicely... I have found at so many restaurants that no matter how good the polenta sounds, it almost always disappoints. Not so here - this stuff was a HUGE portion, and was fried up perfectly, with a very nice taste and texture inside. Best polenta I have EVER had, and pretty much the only one I have really LIKED. I will want to have that again. The seasoning on the Jerk wings was not very strong and not at all spicy - hardly what I expect from Jerk - but the wings were cooked just right, and were savory and tasty and the sauce was nice. I will want to try the Buffalo wings in the future. White Sangria while a bit overpriced came in a big full glass and was very good... just the ticket after a long work day, even at the excessive price. For entrees - my burger was perfectly serviceable, but really nothing to write home about. I don't think the patty was seasoned at all, it was pretty bland. The fixins were OK, nothing special.... except for the BACON, which was REALLY fine. Could have been crispier - but a very good bacon. The big winner of the night was my wife's meatloaf. Apparently this is pretty much exactly the meatloaf that had put Downcity on the map way back when; and it came in TWO gigantic slabs. With really good garlic mashed and a nice little serve of zucchini. Both of us had leftover meatloaf for lunch - and even cold it was really really good. Someone at the next table had crab cakes, and sent them back saying they were too mushy... looking over at them, they were big but thin, and didn't look like there was a lot of big lump crab meat in them. Hopefully the chef will take note of this criticism: if you aren't using GOOD lump crab, and LOTS of it, and LITTLE else, your crab cakes will be shitty and make your restaurant look bad. Don't bother putting shoddy crab cakes on the menu. Our waitress was very friendly and pleasant - but hadn't thought to mention to us the specials, the next table asked if there were any and she read them off. How were we to even know? A good attitude lets me forgive a server for some slips... but I would really like to get a better level of professionalism when dinner is costing me more than it would at Chili's. The former Vine Yard East in that location remains much missed... but I will be going back to 2 Pauls for polenta and meatloaf and maybe wings.... and heck I'm curious to try their Brunch on a Sunday. Maybe I will have to add to this next time out.

Wanted to throw some support to a new independent restaurant spot in the area, but really, could've just as easily walked into a Ground Round/Davenports/Chelo's/insert chain lacking in personality or charm. It's basic, high-priced American comfort food - beef stroganoff, meatloaf, steak, pork chops, mac and cheese, etc. I liked my garlic mashed potatoes and my husband's shish-kabob platter of fixin's but his meat (lamb) and my shrimp were both overdone. The beverage pricing is wacky. An OK bottle of wine runs you a scant $15.00, while a weak mixed drink off the cocktail list costs $10.50!? Both the host and waitress had us wondering... "is this your first day on the job? Or in a restaurant? Ever?". They were kind and well-meaning, just terribly clueless.

This week we decided to avail ourselves of 2Pauls Good Food which had opened for business this week past. Cost for 4 with tip around $145.00 We sampled the following menu items: From Scratch Soups: The chicken noodle soup @ $5.95 per serving. From Salads: Chopped Greek salad - @ $9.95 per serving From Sandwiches: Blackened tuna Steak @ $11.95 From Entrees: East Providence Steak a la Mamma @ $20.95 From Entrees: Pan Roasted Cod @ $16.95 From Entrees: 2Pauls Signature Shish-Kabob Platter Chicken @ $16.95 Service was of medium to slow easily explained by the newness of the establishment. The chicken noodle soup: $5.95 - * 1 star From scratch chicken noodle soup was served in a very large flat bowl which may have contributed to its being less than luke warm upon arrival. The portion was small, It was very thin, there were no "noodles" in the chicken noodle soup.. There was a sparse amount of pasta, akin to chopped penne, along with chunks of both white and dark chicken meat. As stated, the soup was barely luke warm, the spoon was actually in the bowl, up to the handle when presented. This is not a $6.00 bowl of soup. Chopped Greek salad: $9.95 - ** The salad was large and ordinary, with very large chunks of feta cheese tossed in. Pan Roasted Cod: $16.95 * 1-star Stated: "Wild caught filet baked with roast potatoes in a broth of white wine, saffron, capers, olives and plum tomatoes" Complete disappointment. This was a piece of cod fish, with sliced potatoes, served in what amounted to a thin tomato stew. It was a stewed dish all day long. No definition to the "roasted potatoes" Just sliced potato floating about. This dish is cafeteria like in quality and hospital food like in taste.. If there is saffron in this dish, it's well hidden. Blackened tuna Steak: $11.95 (did not offer rating) Review from the diner was okay. East Providence Steak a la Mamma: $20.95 ** 2 stars Served on top of mashed potatoes the steak was fatty for a NY strip, and pricy when compared to the quality and presentation. 2Pauls Signature Shish-Kabob Platter Chicken: $16.95 ** 2-stars Here you will receive a very large portion of skewered chicken, served atop rice with typical greek yogurt sauce on the side for dipping. It is a large portion of a dish of average quality. For our regular dining group 2Pauls Good Food will be a pass in the future. One can dine at the 1149, for example, which is just up the street, for a similar price and with a considerably better dinning experience, and more importantly much better table fare. Perhaps better with time... but with the choices available in our area, 2Pauls Good Food is a miss.

I have written two other reviews for 2Pauls but they mysteriously disappear. I really think it is a wonderful place. The food is wonderful, prices are good and a classy relaxed atmosphere. Worth the drive from the other side of town! Great restaurant week meal! My other reviews were much more articulate but they seem to disappear- we'll see if this one stays. :/

The food here was amazing!! Great selection of dishes, so hard to chose just one. I have been here a few times and each time I left very satisfied and with a doggie bag. The food quality is excellent, you can tell they use all fresh ingredients and take pride in the presentation of the dishes. The portions are very generous especially considering the prices. If you want a truly delicious meal in a lovely setting give them a try, you won't be disappointed. The only thing I didn't like too much was the location, a one way street can be a pain but it actually worked out fine. I will keep going back... it's a great little gem of a place!

The food is never amazing but I haven't found a reason not to go back. I've had spaghetti and meatballs one time and lobster mac n cheese before that. Both were decent. I've gone with friends who enjoyed their food each time. Service was friendly. I go occasionally on nights when they have trivia and I've always had a decent time because it's a small fun group but I hate it when the employees give trivia answers to customers. They have good parking which is nice, overall I like the place.

This restaurant seems to want to do the right thing, but they really need to have outsiders taste their food. Been there a couple of time for lunch. The sauguys were fine. Properly prepared, and a very large portion of baked beans. On the next visit , the BLT+C was a different story. The bacon was good and recently cooked. That was the plus side. The down side, the lettuce and tomato had come off the prep line were they had be prepped to be used with burgers (you know, tomato, lettuce and onion for the burger) and tasted like it. The onion flavor was over powering. Besides, a BLT has lettuce and tomato as integral parts of the sandwich. The sandwich here did not. Nor was there any mayonnaise on the sandwich! Finally, while using Portuguese sweet bread may sound like a good idea, the sweetness completely over powers the saltiness of the bacon and is the dominant flavor of the sandwich. Right now, I think they are still in shake down mode. I will return and hopefully their execution will begin living up to the promise.

I'm not sure why the other reviews are so harsh. Okay, the location isn't the greatest, but the interior is nice enough and the staff is very friendly. My wife and I ordered the braised short ribs, which were very tasty. I would give the place five stars if only the assorted cookies were better.

Wow! I like this place. A bit bright in dinning room but out of 9 entrees over two visits with friends not one complaint! Highlights - meatballs, table sized calamari and meatloaf the size of your head! Big martins and good service. Older reviewers may want to try again. Only wish the bar area sat more people, very popular and fills up quickly. Kabobs are enough for two meals as well as the shrimp scampi! I'm making this part of my regular stops.

I have been to the Paul's a number of times for lunch and dinner and find the food very good and the service is prompt and friendly. I don't think the Paul's are trying to compete with the Capital Grill or Capriccio's, they are serving well prepared comfort food, come on folks, they have hot dogs and beans on the menu and they are very good by the way. I enjoy the food and the family friendly environment, keep up the good work.

Oh boy...what crap. The only reason I'm reviewing this place at all is to put out a warning to other prospective diners. My boyfriend and I decided to try this place for restaurant week, as the menu looked promising and had a very varied selection. When we pulled up, the parking lot was empty and the building looked like an abandoned Ponderosa Steakhouse. That, coupled with the ratchet area in which it was located, should have been our first warning, but we wanted to try something new, so we ventured in regardless. The inside was clean, nice enough, but very nondescript. It reminded me of the diner in Pulp Fiction- very big, open, bland and outdated. We were immediately (and unenthusiastically) greeted by a sassy young man who seemed like he could care less if we dropped dead, never mind that we were paying customers. We were seated and the waitress came over. Now, I have to give her credit, she was a nice girl. She made small talk, cracked a few jokes and even though she didn't seem very professional, we enjoyed her waiting on us. We got down to ordering the food, and when it did arrive, all we could think of was Robert Irvine from our favorite show, "Restaurant Impossible" tearing this place apart if he were with us. He obviously wasn't there, so we tore it apart. The appetizer, Polenta Fries, were absolutely covered in blobs of not so fresh mozzarella and drenched in their tasteless marinara sauce. Next! I got the eggplant parm, which wasn't too bad, but it reminded me of those Stouffer's frozen dinners that you heat up and shame eat in front of the TV, alone in the dark; it tastes pretty good, despite the fact that it's actually horrible for you. My boyfriend (a culinary student at Johnson and Wales) got the Oven Poached Haddock and Shrimp. He thought the fish was way overcooked to the point of being rubbery and the shrimp were not shelled properly. All of this was drowned in a tasteless tomato and saffron broth. Then came the "dessert course", as the waitress billed it: "A fine assortment of cookies." We laughed our asses off as she brought us 4 cookies that looked like they were literally dumped on the plate out of a package of boxed cookies. Absolutely. asinine. The icing on the cake was when the chef came out of the kitchen and into the dining room to say hello to some friends wearing the trademark chef's whites and...khaki shorts and flip flops...Total health code violation right there. I thought this was a restaurant, not a backyard barbeque! Based on the food and the atmosphere (no one in the place was under 50 except us), this really seemed like a place where older couples like to go to eat lousy food, drink cheap beer, weak mixed drinks, watch the game on one of the big screen TVs and sing awful karaoke a few nights a week. And considering how bad the food was, this place has NO business charging upwards of $23 for an entree. I could get Italian food that is infinitely better on federal hill or anywhere in the Providence area for the same or less. That's another thing, is this place supposed to be an Italian restaurant, an American bar and grille, Mexican, Middle Eastern...who the Hell knows? The menu was all over the place. Although it was good for a laugh, there was nothing funny about wasting $40. We'll never come back.

Ate at 2 Pauls for the first time on Monday night and had a YUMMY dinner!!! I had the shrimp kabob that was beautifully presented and bountiful, in addition to being cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. My friend had the special scrod that looked great, and she said it was very good. I thought the menu was terrific, with everything from spaghetti and meatballs to chicken pot pie. We'll be back to try it all!

My wife and I are foodies, and we go everywhere to explore what restaurants of all cultures have to offer. However, on occassion we just don't feel like traveling far from home, and decide to explore locally. Well, last night we thought we would give 2 Pauls Good Food a shot. We did, and we found was that the food was dissapointing, and the prices for our orders were high, compared to other restaurants that serve the same dishes. My wife orderd the Chicken Pot Pie. This was no Pie. What they do here is take out the contents of a Chicken Pot Pie, and place it on you plate. Then, on the corner of your dish they place a baked, hollow puff dough that is nothing like what a pie crust is supposed to be. The dish was bland, and dry, and not at all tastey. We have had Chicken Pot Pie at many establishments, and this one was the worst we have ever had. It did not even resemble what a Pot Pie should be. I ordered the Veggie Burger. Again, this is a sandwich I have ordered quite often at other establishments. What I got was a very thin, deep fried, crispy, dry, patty that resembled and tasted more like a hash brown patty. It lacked a tastey sause, and was served between Portuguese bread. What I was expecting--and have experienced at other restaurants--is a thicker, juicier patty that was grilled, with a nice mayonaise based sause, and not fried (who fries hamburgers anyway?). They waittress told the manager, who--to his credit--approached us for feedback.

The chicken noodle soup: $5.95 - * 1 star From scratch chicken noodle soup was served in a very large flat bowl which may have contributed to its being less than luke warm upon arrival. The portion was small, It was very thin, there were no "noodles" in the chicken noodle soup.. There was a sparse amount of pasta, akin to chopped penne, along with chunks of both white and dark chicken meat. As stated, the soup was barely luke warm, the spoon was actually in the bowl, up to the handle when presented. This is not a $6.00 bowl of soup. Chopped Greek salad: $9.95 - ** The salad was large and ordinary, with very large chunks of feta cheese tossed in. Pan Roasted Cod: $16.95 * 1-star Stated: "Wild caught filet baked with roast potatoes in a broth of white wine, saffron, capers, olives and plum tomatoes" Complete disappointment. This was a piece of cod fish, with sliced potatoes, served in what amounted to a thin tomato stew. It was a stewed dish all day long. No definition to the "roasted potatoes" Just sliced potato floating about. This dish is cafeteria like in quality and hospital food like in taste.. If there is saffron in this dish, it's well hidden. Blackened tuna Steak: $11.95 (did not offer rating) Review from the diner was okay. East Providence Steak a la Mamma: $20.95 ** 2 stars Served on top of mashed potatoes the steak was fatty for a NY strip, and pricy when compared to the quality and presentation. 2Pauls Signature Shish-Kabob Platter Chicken: $16.95 ** 2-stars Here you will receive a very large portion of skewered chicken, served atop rice with typical greek yogurt sauce on the side for dipping. It is a large portion of a dish of average quality. For our regular dining group 2Pauls Good Food will be a pass in the future. One can dine at the 1149, for example, which is just up the street, for a similar price and with a considerably better dinning experience, and more importantly much better table fare. Perhaps better with time... but with the choices available in our area, 2Pauls Good Food is a miss.

I have written two other reviews for 2Pauls but they mysteriously disappear. I really think it is a wonderful place. The food is wonderful, prices are good and a classy relaxed atmosphere. Worth the drive from the other side of town! Great restaurant week meal! My other reviews were much more articulate but they seem to disappear- we'll see if this one stays. :/

The food here was amazing!! Great selection of dishes, so hard to chose just one. I have been here a few times and each time I left very satisfied and with a doggie bag. The food quality is excellent, you can tell they use all fresh ingredients and take pride in the presentation of the dishes. The portions are very generous especially considering the prices. If you want a truly delicious meal in a lovely setting give them a try, you won't be disappointed. The only thing I didn't like too much was the location, a one way street can be a pain but it actually worked out fine. I will keep going back... it's a great little gem of a place!

The food is never amazing but I haven't found a reason not to go back. I've had spaghetti and meatballs one time and lobster mac n cheese before that. Both were decent. I've gone with friends who enjoyed their food each time. Service was friendly. I go occasionally on nights when they have trivia and I've always had a decent time because it's a small fun group but I hate it when the employees give trivia answers to customers. They have good parking which is nice, overall I like the place.

This restaurant seems to want to do the right thing, but they really need to have outsiders taste their food. Been there a couple of time for lunch. The sauguys were fine. Properly prepared, and a very large portion of baked beans. On the next visit , the BLT+C was a different story. The bacon was good and recently cooked. That was the plus side. The down side, the lettuce and tomato had come off the prep line were they had be prepped to be used with burgers (you know, tomato, lettuce and onion for the burger) and tasted like it. The onion flavor was over powering. Besides, a BLT has lettuce and tomato as integral parts of the sandwich. The sandwich here did not. Nor was there any mayonnaise on the sandwich! Finally, while using Portuguese sweet bread may sound like a good idea, the sweetness completely over powers the saltiness of the bacon and is the dominant flavor of the sandwich. Right now, I think they are still in shake down mode. I will return and hopefully their execution will begin living up to the promise.

I'm not sure why the other reviews are so harsh. Okay, the location isn't the greatest, but the interior is nice enough and the staff is very friendly. My wife and I ordered the braised short ribs, which were very tasty. I would give the place five stars if only the assorted cookies were better.

Wow! I like this place. A bit bright in dinning room but out of 9 entrees over two visits with friends not one complaint! Highlights - meatballs, table sized calamari and meatloaf the size of your head! Big martins and good service. Older reviewers may want to try again. Only wish the bar area sat more people, very popular and fills up quickly. Kabobs are enough for two meals as well as the shrimp scampi! I'm making this part of my regular stops.

I have been to the Paul's a number of times for lunch and dinner and find the food very good and the service is prompt and friendly. I don't think the Paul's are trying to compete with the Capital Grill or Capriccio's, they are serving well prepared comfort food, come on folks, they have hot dogs and beans on the menu and they are very good by the way. I enjoy the food and the family friendly environment, keep up the good work.

Oh boy...what crap. The only reason I'm reviewing this place at all is to put out a warning to other prospective diners. My boyfriend and I decided to try this place for restaurant week, as the menu looked promising and had a very varied selection. When we pulled up, the parking lot was empty and the building looked like an abandoned Ponderosa Steakhouse. That, coupled with the ratchet area in which it was located, should have been our first warning, but we wanted to try something new, so we ventured in regardless. The inside was clean, nice enough, but very nondescript. It reminded me of the diner in Pulp Fiction- very big, open, bland and outdated. We were immediately (and unenthusiastically) greeted by a sassy young man who seemed like he could care less if we dropped dead, never mind that we were paying customers. We were seated and the waitress came over. Now, I have to give her credit, she was a nice girl. She made small talk, cracked a few jokes and even though she didn't seem very professional, we enjoyed her waiting on us. We got down to ordering the food, and when it did arrive, all we could think of was Robert Irvine from our favorite show, "Restaurant Impossible" tearing this place apart if he were with us. He obviously wasn't there, so we tore it apart. The appetizer, Polenta Fries, were absolutely covered in blobs of not so fresh mozzarella and drenched in their tasteless marinara sauce. Next! I got the eggplant parm, which wasn't too bad, but it reminded me of those Stouffer's frozen dinners that you heat up and shame eat in front of the TV, alone in the dark; it tastes pretty good, despite the fact that it's actually horrible for you. My boyfriend (a culinary student at Johnson and Wales) got the Oven Poached Haddock and Shrimp. He thought the fish was way overcooked to the point of being rubbery and the shrimp were not shelled properly. All of this was drowned in a tasteless tomato and saffron broth. Then came the "dessert course", as the waitress billed it: "A fine assortment of cookies." We laughed our asses off as she brought us 4 cookies that looked like they were literally dumped on the plate out of a package of boxed cookies. Absolutely. asinine. The icing on the cake was when the chef came out of the kitchen and into the dining room to say hello to some friends wearing the trademark chef's whites and...khaki shorts and flip flops...Total health code violation right there. I thought this was a restaurant, not a backyard barbeque! Based on the food and the atmosphere (no one in the place was under 50 except us), this really seemed like a place where older couples like to go to eat lousy food, drink cheap beer, weak mixed drinks, watch the game on one of the big screen TVs and sing awful karaoke a few nights a week. And considering how bad the food was, this place has NO business charging upwards of $23 for an entree. I could get Italian food that is infinitely better on federal hill or anywhere in the Providence area for the same or less. That's another thing, is this place supposed to be an Italian restaurant, an American bar and grille, Mexican, Middle Eastern...who the Hell knows? The menu was all over the place. Although it was good for a laugh, there was nothing funny about wasting $40. We'll never come back.

Ate at 2 Pauls for the first time on Monday night and had a YUMMY dinner!!! I had the shrimp kabob that was beautifully presented and bountiful, in addition to being cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. My friend had the special scrod that looked great, and she said it was very good. I thought the menu was terrific, with everything from spaghetti and meatballs to chicken pot pie. We'll be back to try it all!

My wife and I are foodies, and we go everywhere to explore what restaurants of all cultures have to offer. However, on occassion we just don't feel like traveling far from home, and decide to explore locally. Well, last night we thought we would give 2 Pauls Good Food a shot. We did, and we found was that the food was dissapointing, and the prices for our orders were high, compared to other restaurants that serve the same dishes. My wife orderd the Chicken Pot Pie. This was no Pie. What they do here is take out the contents of a Chicken Pot Pie, and place it on you plate. Then, on the corner of your dish they place a baked, hollow puff dough that is nothing like what a pie crust is supposed to be. The dish was bland, and dry, and not at all tastey. We have had Chicken Pot Pie at many establishments, and this one was the worst we have ever had. It did not even resemble what a Pot Pie should be. I ordered the Veggie Burger. Again, this is a sandwich I have ordered quite often at other establishments. What I got was a very thin, deep fried, crispy, dry, patty that resembled and tasted more like a hash brown patty. It lacked a tastey sause, and was served between Portuguese bread. What I was expecting--and have experienced at other restaurants--is a thicker, juicier patty that was grilled, with a nice mayonaise based sause, and not fried (who fries hamburgers anyway?). They waittress told the manager, who--to his credit--approached us for feedback.

Terrible service. Really. Terrible. Topped off with a truly unimpressive meal. I had heard good things about this place when they open and was sadly very disappointed.
